What about my project?

Thank you for taking time to read my project.

The reason why I’m doing this crowdfunding is to improve my studio activity.

I need a kiln for majolica!

Despite I studied Ceramic and I’m in the field for several years, so far the high prices of kilns for majolica and the cost of electricity supply forced me to go to another firm to fire the pieces.

I’ve to take my car, put the pieces inside boxes with a sort of wool to protect the glaze and the decoration and drive for about 15 km back and forth from my house to the firm. Not enough, the firm is closed during the week-end and soon it will be open by appointment only.

So can happen that pieces go ruined or that I receive orders last minute and I can’t prepare in time what clients ask me.

In addition to this, I can’t create new pieces experimenting clays, glazes and colours in the comfort of my studio.

I can’t handle it anymore, I need my own kiln. So I thought to try with Sponsume.

Now I’m working on my project about hand-painted table sets for breakfast and other home decorations.

The collection is based on some small acrylic paintings I did, partly inspired by the city of London - partly by a scene inside “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare.

I gave the two series the titles of “Crazy Pictures…of London” (because it’s a city I love much and I like the British humor: places, symbols, colours, signs) and “Strane Apparizioni” (Strange Apparitions) (from a line where Prospero offers a banquet to his enemies).

In the gallery below you can see some samples from the collection.

The set for breakfast "Crazy Pictures...of London" is a work in progress! At the moment I made: teapots, coffee cups+plates, mugs for milk+plates, sugar bowls, cookie jars, wooden trays, napkin holders, hot pad hooks, breadsticks holders, cutting boards, bottle cups, coasters and so on. Plus magnets and pendant.

Coming soon, other bigger ceramic pieces: trays with two handles, platters for sweets, trays for hard-boiled eggs, sauce boats for cream/chocolate/jam/sweets/fruit and so on!

In the series “Strange Apparitions”, Christmas plates and decorations for the Christmas tree are already available.

Can the two series be seen somewhere?

Yes. First, you can see all the pictures on my website, as soon as the works are ready.

Then, during the incoming event “Argillà Italia 2014http://www.argilla-italia.it/, which will take place in Faenza Italy 5-6-7 September 2014, I will expose the collections in my stall.

I invite you to come to Faenza and visit Argillà: if you’re a lover of Ceramic, you can’t miss it!

And, if you make a donation from € 15 now and you come to my stall with the payment receipt in September, in addition to your reward there’s a further surprise for you.

Or you can always visit my studio!

In the future, I’m planning to make an Italian series inspired by the “Commedia dell’Arte” and maybe – who knows? - one day another series inspired by places around the World!

Risks and challenges?

Today Art is considered unnecessary by most of the people who are living the economical crisis. Ceramic in particular is considered fragile and incomprehensibly expensive.

I can say many things to explain why they’re wrong, but I rather prefer to use this space to introduce my challenge!

I live and studied in one of the most important Italian cities of ceramic: Faenza. In particular my city gave the name to a kind of ceramic, the Faïence, much famous outside Italy,  so I’m trying to continue the tradition of our potters enveloping my own style.

I’m planning to suggest my series to some important brands, when they will be complete and good enough to be launched. I think this colored and funny collection can succeed.

Every piece will be signed with my monogram and will report the title of the collection.

My intention is also to make the kiln available for other ceramists of the territory and ceramic courses.

So what now?

Look on the right and choose your reward!

Every donation will be much appreciated and reported on my website, Facebook and Twitter accounts (real name or nickname, as you prefer).

I’ll keep you informed about the steps of this crowdfunding and for some time after it will be expired.

I’m sorry: for the moment the shipping is within Europe only.

Thank you very much for your support! Feel free to ask me more information.

(I apologize for errors in English, since this is not my main language.)

But…who am I?

My name is Antonella.

I am a painter, ceramist and decorator of Emilia Romagna, on the Adriatic Riviera, with big passion for Travels, Music, Theatre, Cinema and Literature, from where I take ideas for my artworks.

I chose “Leoni in Arte” as my nickname, from one of my paintings, “The Tamer”. It became my insigna.
